After Completion of Endodontic Treatment
Endodontic treatment has now been completed. The root canal system has been permanently sealed. However, the outer surface is sealed with a temporary restoration. A follow-up restoration must be placed to protect your tooth against fracture and decay. Please telephone your dentist for an appointment to complete the final restoration. This will protect the tooth against fracture and decay. Most teeth will require a crown to protect the tooth against fracture. Delay in obtaining a final dental restoration may result in tooth fracture and possible loss of the tooth.
You may eat and drink as soon as the anesthetic wears off. The tooth may be tender for several days up to a few weeks as a result of the manipulation during treatment. Give the area some time to heal. We recommend taking 600 mg ibuprofen every 6 hours for the first 2 days following treatment. If you are allergic to ibuprofen, take 1 Tylenol extra strength tablet, up to 4 times a day. Avoid chewing on the treatment side of your mouth until the tenderness is gone.
A complete report of treatment with your radiographs will be sent to your dentist.
